Australian passport application for Australians visiting or residing in Malta
Important Information
Whether you are renewing your passport or applying for the first time, you will need to complete an application form and submit it in person at the Australian High Commission together with the required documents. Some adult renewals (PC7) have the additional option of mailing the application to us at the Australian High Commission.
Australian citizens in Malta should lodge their application at the Australian High Commission to Malta. Applications lodged in other locations where the applicant does not usually reside, can risk further delays and a re-direction may not be possible.
Passports are currently subject to a minimum of 6 weeks processing time plus delivery.

STEP 1 - Complete your application formYou can either receive the appropriate form by post or download it from the Australian passport office website. |

You will need to create an account first, and answer a few questions to access the correct form. |
STEP 2 - Obtain photos & collect required documents |
All documents and certificates must be original documents, photocopies are not accepted. If you are unsure which documents are required, Photos: Australian passport photos must meet specific standards. |

When making an appointment at the Australian High Commission, please advise if you have mobility issues or have small children in a pram so arrangements for entry can be made in advance.

For a renewal by post, you must be 18 years and over, and you will need a passport that:

► Emergency Passport If you are submitting a postal application for an emergency passport, please include your physical passport with the application (unless it has been lost or stolen) as it will need to be physically cancelled before the emergency passport can be issued. |
Australian passport fees
Passport applications lodged in Malta are to be paid in Australian Dollars.
All passport applications lodged outside of Australia are subject to an overseas surcharge which is additional to the passport fee.

Please note that we only accept payments by bank card. Cash payments cannot be accepted.
Lost and stolen passports
Should your passport be lost or stolen, please report the loss or theft of your passport as soon as possible by contacting us. Depending on your circumstances you can also apply for an emergency or a new passport.
Important:
- You will need to obtain a police report from any police station in Malta.
- Both parents need to provide consent prior to the issue of an emergency passport to a child.
- It is the responsibility of the holder to ensure the emergency travel document is suitable for entry, transit and exit for any ongoing travel including visa requirements.
